Tooth abrasion is the continual loss of enamel, dentin or cementum. This loss of tooth structure leads to notching in the tooth. Notches in the tooth can increase plaque buildup and thus, tooth decay. Some abrasions happen because of the use of toothpicks and brushing teeth too hard.

Preventing toothbrush abrasion

Brushing your teeth correctly will help prevent toothbrush abrasion. Below are some tips to brush your teeth correctly:

1. Direct your brush at a 45 degree angle towards the tooth
2. Move the toothbrush horizontally in short movements
3. Brush the outer parts of the tooth, backside of the tooth and the top surfaces of the tooth
