Visit one of our Mebane dentists for a complete exam. Most new patient visits begin with complete exams and digital radiographs. Our office uses digital sensors which emit less radiation.
What happens during a complete dental exam
During a comprehensive review, a dentist will examine the dental radiographs and perform a clinical exam. We will then be able to provide a treatment plan to patients based on our findings. During complete exams, we look for dental problems. Some of these dental problems include tooth decay, periodontal disease, teeth grinding, missing teeth, broken teeth, large fillings, dead teeth, and defective fillings. These are only a few of the dental issues that we might find. Each patient’s treatment plan will be different, and we develop a plan to suit each person.
Dental treatment planning
We believe in the saying “well begun is half done.” The planning process is an essential step to good oral health. Before we address cosmetic issues, for instance, we will want to treat active disease (i.e., periodontal disease and tooth decay).
Digital dental x-rays (i.e., radiographs)
Radiographs emit low-intensity radiation to produce images of teeth and periodontium (i.e., the bone surrounding your teeth). We use these images to check for bone loss (i.e., periodontal disease) and any active tooth infection. The radiation they emit is less than that used with traditional film. Once we have the appropriate dental images and other clinical information, we can begin treatment planning. A treatment plan dictates what dental services to perform. We gather clinical and diagnostic information to make informed decisions about the dental care of our patients.
