What sort of preventive procedures does our hygienist perform?
Hygienists at Steinbicker Family Dentistry in Mebane provide preventive dental services. Some of these services include the application of fluoride varnish. They also offer child and adult teeth cleanings. Also, an RDH can place sealants.
A sealant is a plastic material that flows into deep grooves, pits, and fissures on teeth. First, dentists etch teeth with a safe acid solution. Second, the RDH rinses the etch off, and our team members place the sealant. Lastly, dentists cure the sealant with an ultra-violet (i.e., UV) light. The light hardens the sealant material.
Sealants ultimately help prevent tooth decay by creating a tooth surface without deep pits and grooves. A tooth with a smooth surface is less likely to get a cavity. Cavities form when food is more likely to stick inside the hole of the tooth.
When should a hygienist clean your teeth?
Dental patients should get their teeth cleaned every six months at the very least. Most insurances cover preventive services 100% including Medicaid. Some patients need to get their teeth cleaned more often such as those in braces or periodontal patients.
Getting teeth cleanings helps prevent tooth decay. Reducing tooth decay preclude the need for root canals and dental implants. To learn more about us, please meet our dental team.
